The Village of Montfort is working on a Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan update and we would want to hear from you!

The Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan update provides an opportunity to look ahead to Montfort’s park and recreation needs for the next five years. The purpose of this plan is to develop goals, objectives and recommendations that will guide Montfort towards the development and improvement of its outdoor recreation facilities. Updating the plan is also an eligibility requirement for of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ park and recreation grant funding.

An online survey is now open! The survey was created to help gather input from the public. Please take a moment to fill out the survey at:

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that an election to be held in the Village of Montfort, on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, the following offices are to be elected to succeed the present incumbents listed.  The term for village president and village trustee begins on April 19, 2021.  All terms are for two years unless otherwise indicated.

Question: Should the Wisconsin legislature create a nonpartisan procedure for the preparation of legislative and congressional district plans and maps?

EXPLANATION AND EFFECT OF VOTE

A copy of the entire text of Iowa County Board Resolution No. 16-0620, directing the submission of the question to the electors, can be obtained from the office of the Iowa County Clerk, 222 N. Acceptable Photo ID will be required to vote at this election.  If you do not have a photo ID you may obtain a free ID for voting from the Division of Motor Vehicles.

Stat. § 7.51.  This meeting will be open to the public pursuant to Wis. Stat. §§ 19.81-89.

Stats. 5.84 (1) Testing Equipment, the electronic voting equipment must be tested at a public meeting.  The ICE – ImageCast Evolution electronic voting system, which utilizes automatic tabulating equipment, will be tested on Monday, October 26 at 10:00 a.m. in the Village Office, 102 E. Park Street.

The Village is renting a leaf vacuum for this day.  If you don’t want to bag your leaves this year, have them swept to the edge of your lawn by the morning of Wednesday November 4th for pick up.  After this date you will have to bag your leaves for pick up.  Call the Village office if you have any questions Monday through Thursday 8:00am-4:30pm 608-943-6917.

PUBLIC NOTICE TO ALL CUSTOMERS OF THE MONTFORT MUNICIPAL WATER UTILITY

The Montfort Municipal Water Utility has filed an application with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW) to increase water rates.  The increase is necessary due to a 79.20 percent increase in gross plant investment and a 114.15 percent increase in operating expenses since the last water rate case was completed in 2000.

The total increase in water revenues requested is $39,594 which will result in an estimated overall rate increase of 22.25 percent over the water utility’s present revenues.  If the request is granted, the water bill for an average residential customer with a ⅝-inch or ¾-inch meter who uses 3,000 gallons of water per month will increase from $25.28 to $35.67, or 41% including the public fire protection charge.

A telephonic public hearing on the application has been scheduled for Tuesday, November 10, 2020, at 10:00 a.m.  This virtual hearing has no physical location.  This is a virtual hearing to which members of the public may attend by telephone or listen to live broadcast on-line.  Scheduling questions regarding this hearing may be directed to the PSCW at (608) 266-3766.

Type E Notice for Absentee Voting

 

VOTING BY ABSENTEE BALLOT

Any qualified elector who is unable or unwilling to appear at the polling place on Election Day may request to vote an absentee ballot. A qualified elector is any U.S. citizen, who will be 18 years of age or older on Election Day, who has resided in the ward or municipality where he or she wishes to vote for at least 28 consecutive days before the election. The elector must also be registered in order to receive an absentee ballot. Proof of identification must be provided before an absentee ballot may be issued.

You must make a request for an absentee ballot in writing.

Contact your municipal clerk and request that an application for an absentee ballot be sent to you for the primary or election or both. You may also submit a written request in the form of a letter. Your written request must list your voting address within the municipality where you wish to vote, the address where the absentee ballot should be sent, if different, and your signature. You may make application for an absentee ballot by mail, email or in person.

The deadline for making application to receive an absentee ballot by mail is:
4:30 pm on the fifth day before the election, Thursday, October 29, 2020.

Note: Special absentee voting application provisions apply to electors who are indefinitely confined to home or a care facility, in the military, hospitalized, or serving as a sequestered juror. If this applies to you, contact the municipal clerk regarding deadlines for requesting and submitting an absentee ballot.
